Dr. Gordon Calleja is Associate Professor and the Head of the Center for Computer Games Research at the IT University of Copenhagen.  He currently lectures in Game Theory at Masters level at ITU.

Prior to his current appointment he taught courses in Media Studies, English Literature, Literary Theory and Academic Writing at under-graduate level.

Gordon has a background in Literary Theory and Media Studies.  He received his PhD from Victoria University of Wellington in New Zealand.  His current research focuses on digital games and addresses three broad areas: game ontology, narrative in games, and player engagement in games and virtual worlds.  The latter is the focus of his upcoming book on involvement and immersion understood as a combination of six primary sources of engagement: emotional affect, spatial perception and navigation, experiential narrative,  exertion of agency and pleasures of control, sociality and goal attainment and reward.

Outside of an academic context he taught English at language schools for a number of years where he was also involved in teacher training and top-level management.  The latter position is supported by a three year stint in accounting and auditing posts complemented by a higher education in financial subjects.

Gordon also worked as a freelance copywriter and game journalist for a number of web-sites and magazines in various countries
